The EMT class is approximately 120 hours long and includes information on emergency medical care, semi-automated defibrillation, patient assessment, trauma care, and other subjects related to pre-hospital patient care. After a probation period, the squad will reimburse the member for the cost of the class.
Other levels of EMT which may be obtained as experience and time allows is the EMT-Intermediate level which covers advanced patient care and treatment, placement of intravenous lines, and in some cases limited medication administration.
The Paramedic level is the highest EMS level available. This course is intensive, covering advanced patient assessment and treatment, use of advanced airway and other skills, and extensive medication administration.
All levels of EMT provider require continuing education and skills review. These classes are available in the area and the squad will help members with the cost of the classes.
